Depends on the quality of the filter.
But I'd say that most people don't recommend them. They also increase the occurrance of reflections (ghosting?) . |

They are merely used to protect the lens glass, but can effect the picture quality as you are going through extra glass.
This is not recommended unless you are in a condition you really need to protect the glass, dusty environments for example. _________________ http://www.robbinn.com |

There are two reasons to use UV filters in cameras.
One is to protect your lens in extreme environments, like sandstorm, mud from vehicles you happen to be close to when shooting some sports and so on.
In controlled area like studios and many indoors shootings, there is no need for it, except you are a born loser. A lens hood is usually enough protection.
In the days of film cameras UV filter prevented UV light from getting through to the film. Today in the digital world there is no need for it for that reason, because there are filters inside the camera doing that specific job. _________________ Dagskot Rodors

Recommend using lens hoods. (even if you use a filter) |
